Police Arrest Arms Fabricator, Recover Firearms In Uruan

Police in Akwa Ibom State have recorded another major operational success in its sustained crackdown on illegal arms manufacturing and proliferation across the State.

Accordingly, the Command has arrested one Umo Udoh (M) of Ibiaku Uruan Village, Uruan Local Government Area.

DSP Timfon John, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Akwa Ibom State Police Command, stated this in a press release issued in Uyo on Thursday, March 19, 2026

DSP John said the arrest on March 18, 2026 at about 0745hrs, was sequel to an earlier operation conducted on March 17, 2026, by operatives of the Command, who acted on credible intelligence and intensive surveillance.

She said “preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect is a key arms fabricator who had been actively involved in the illicit production of firearms and was responsible for training other suspects earlier arrested by the Command.”

The PPRO said suspect, Umo Udoh, has since confessed to the crime.

She listed items recovered from the suspect include one Dane gun, one dismantled single-barrel gun and one gun butt.

Meanwhile, investigations are ongoing to apprehend other members of the syndicate and ensure they are brought to justice.

DSP John said Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State Command, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, fsi, reiterates the Command’s unwavering commitment to identifying, dismantling, and prosecuting all illegal arms manufacturing networks and their collaborators across the State.

“The Command hereby warns all individuals engaged in the illegal fabrication, possession, or distribution of firearms to immediately desist from such criminal activities or face the full weight of the law. There will be no safe haven for criminal elements within Akwa Ibom State.

“The Command further calls on members of the public to continue to support the Police with credible and timely information, as collective vigilance remains critical in sustaining the prevailing peace and security in the State,” she added.
