The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has apprehended a suspected receiver of a stolen vehicle and a suspected stolen vehicle from him.
This follows the Police’s sustained efforts to combat vehicle theft and other organised criminal activities in the state.
DSP Timfon John, the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), who stated this in a press statement made available to the media Tuesday,
DSP John said the breakthrough followed “a report of a stolen vehicle received through the Control Room on 13 August 2026, after the vehicle was reportedly stolen at Akpasak Estate, Uyo.
“Upon receipt of the report, the Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State Command, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, directed the relevant investigative and operational units to immediately commence efforts aimed at tracing the vehicle and apprehending those responsible,” she said.

The PPRO said further that acting on the directive, detectives deployed technology-driven investigative techniques on the stolen vehicle.
“The sustained efforts eventually led operatives to Delta State on 27 August 2026, where the vehicle was located.
“The operation resulted in the arrest of one Bright Okon, male, a personnel of a Private Security Company, who was found in possession of the stolen vehicle.
The vehicle, identified as a Ford Jeep, was subsequently recovered and brought to the Akwa Ibom State Police Command for further investigation,” she added.
According to the PPRO, the Command has commenced discreet and comprehensive investigations into the circumstances surrounding the theft, movement and possession of the vehicle, with a view to identifying and apprehending other members of the suspected criminal network who may be connected to the incident.
Meanwhile, the State Commissioner of Police has warned individuals involved in the theft, trafficking, concealment or unlawful possession of stolen vehicles that the Command will continue to pursue them relentlessly, irrespective of where they may attempt to hide.
He encouraged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities or information relating to stolen vehicles and other criminal activities to the Police through the established communication channels.
