Police Arrest Suspected Armed Robber, Recover Stolen Property 

A suspected notorious cultist and armed robbery suspect, who has been terrorising residents of Ikot Ekpene and surrounding areas has been apprehended by the Police in Akwa Ibom State.

The suspect, one Inima Sunday Akpan, a male from Abak Itiat Ikwuk Village in Ini Local Government Area, is said to have been in hiding in Ibiaku Village near Uyo City Polytechnic within the State’s capital city.

The arrest is coming on the heels of the crackdown on criminal activities by the Akwa Ibom State Police Command which has made the state unsafe for men of the underworld to operate.

DSP Timfon John, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Akwa Ibom State Police Command, disclosed this in a press release on Saturday, August 16, 2025.

According to the PPRO, the suspect, Akpan has a history of involvement in multiple armed robbery cases, including recent incidents in Ikot Otor, Ikot Uboh, and Ikot Osurua in Ikot Ekpene, where a lawyer (name withheld) was shot and several others were injured.

It is reported that other members of his gang have already been apprehended and are cooling their heels at the Police station.

The statement read: “The suspect, has again On Thursday, August 14, 2025, at approximately 7:00 PM, Operatives of the Command successfully arrested a suspected notorious cultist and armed robbery suspect who has been terrorising residents of the Ikot Ekpene and surrounding areas.

“Acting on credible intelligence, Operatives of the Command apprehended the suspect, one Inima Sunday Akpan, a male from Abak Itiat Ikwuk Village in Ini Local Government Area, who had been in hiding in Ibiaku Village near Uyo City Polytechnic.

“Akpan has a history of involvement in multiple armed robbery cases, including recent incidents in Ikot Otor, Ikot Uboh, and Ikot Osurua, where a lawyer (name withheld) was shot and several others were injured. Other members of his gang have already been apprehended.

“A search of Akpan’s hideout at the time of his arrest yielded several items suspected to be stolen, including one new Daylong motorcycle (originally red, repainted black), one 32-inch Itec television, one LG home theatre/sound system, one amplifier, and one foam.

Meanwhile, the police disclosed that during interrogation, Akpan confessed to the crimes and assured that an investigation is ongoing on the matter.
