
The police in Akwa Ibom State have arrested two suspected hoodlums and recovered dangerous weapons in Uyo.
DSP Timfon John, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Akwa Ibom State Command, said in a statement issued on Friday, October 3, 2025, that the arrest is on the heels of its proactive effort to rid the state of criminal elements.
According to her, its vigilant patrol team in the early hours of Thursday, October 2, 2025, while on routine patrol along Idoro Road by Abolin Junction, intercepted two suspicious individuals loitering in a dark spot at about 0030hrs.
The PPRO identified the suspects arrested as one Joshua Benjamin, male, who hails from Mbiaku Ikono Local Government Area and one Kingsley Friday Michael, male, from Ikot Ekop, Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area.
Upon instant search on them, it led to the recovery of one fabricated revolving AK-47 rifle and one jackknife,” she added.
Meanwhile, upon their interrogation, the suspects failed to provide any reasonable explanation for their suspicious presence at that hour.

“They falsely claimed to be security guards but could not present uniforms, means of identification, or any credible source for the firearm found in their possession,” DSP stated, adding that the “suspects are currently undergoing further interrogation.”
The Command reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of residents across Akwa Ibom State and enjoined members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report all suspicious activities to the nearest Police formation.
