Police in Akwa Ibom State have carried out successful raid of a suspected criminal hideout in Idu Uruan Village, Uruan Local Government Area, resulting in the arrest of two suspected drug dealers and the recovery of a large quantity of substances suspected to be Indian hemp and Cannabis sativa.
DSP Timfon John, the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), announced the breakthrough in a statement made available to media houses on Saturday, September 12, 2026
DSP John said the operation, which was conducted at about 0130 hours on September 9, 2026, followed credible intelligence received by the Command regarding the activities of suspected criminals operating from the location.
Police operatives, acting swiftly on the intelligence, conducted a coordinated raid on the suspected criminal hideout, which led to the arrest of one Fortune Effiong, a man and one Comfort Effiong, a female.
According to her, a thorough search conducted during the operation led to the recovery of substantial quantities of substances suspected to be Indian hemp and Cannabis sativa, believed to have been intended for distribution and consumption.
DSP John said the operation was in furtherance of the Command’s unwavering commitment to the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, fsi, for a zero-tolerance approach towards criminal “black spots” and the sustained dismantling of criminal hideouts.
She said CP Azare has commended the operatives for their courage, professionalism and commitment to duty, and has directed that the investigation be pursued to its logical conclusion.
“The Command is particularly concerned about the activities of individuals and criminal networks involved in the illicit distribution of narcotic substances, given the devastating consequences of drug abuse on public safety, youth development and the overall security of communities.
“The Commissioner of Police reiterates that Akwa Ibom State will not be allowed to become a haven for criminals, drug dealers, cultists, violent offenders or other elements whose activities threaten the peace and security of law-abiding citizens.
“The Command further urges members of the public to remain vigilant and continue to provide credible and timely information on the activities of suspected criminals to the Police. Such information will be treated with the requisite confidentiality and used to strengthen ongoing security operations,” the PPRO added.
