Police Nab Suspected Hoodlum, Recover Locally Fabricated Firearm In Akwa Ibom

A suspected hoodlum is now cooling his feet in the custody of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command.

The suspect, Emmanuel Okoyo, was arrested and a locally made single-barrel firearm recovered from him following a swift response to a distress call from members of the public.

The Command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Timfon John, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), stated this in a press statement made available to the media on Tuesday, August 18, 2026.

According to DSP John, the Command received credible information on August 17, 2026, at about 1830 hrs that a suspected criminal armed with a firearm was threatening a household at Iton Odoro Village in Ikono Local Government Area.

“Acting promptly on the information and in collaboration with vigilant members of the community, Police operatives mobilised to the location, where they successfully disarmed and arrested the suspect without any casualty,” she said.

It was learned that the complainant had alleged that he was at home with his family when the suspect entered the compound through the back gate and threatened them with the locally made firearm.

The PPRO confirmed that the suspect, Emmanuel Okoyo, is currently in Police custody, while the recovered firearm has been secured as an exhibit.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State Command, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, FSI, has commended members of the public for their timely cooperation and the Police operatives for their prompt and professional response.

The CP reiterated the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property and urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information on suspicious persons and criminal activities in their communities.
