
The long arms of the law have caught up with a syndicate linked to the persistent vandalism and theft of property belonging to the Akwa Ibom State Water Company.
In busting the syndicate, the Akwa Ibom State Police Command successfully arrested three members of the ring between August 18 and August 21, 2025, after a thorough investigation based on credible information.
DSP Timfon John, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Akwa Ibom State Police Command stated this in a press release issued in Uyo on Friday, August 29, 2025.

She stated that on August 18, 2025, operatives of the State Command responded to a tip regarding the theft of armoured cables from the Water Company’s property on Brooks Street in Uyo.
“The police team quickly mobilised, leading to the apprehension of two suspects at the scene: Itoro Moses David and Patrick Effiom,” she added.
The PPRO disclosed that “Following their arrest, the suspects confessed to the crime and provided information that led to the subsequent arrest of a third individual on August 21,” adding that “The third suspect, identified as Edidiong Edet Edet, is believed to be a suspected notorious member of the criminal gang.”

DSP Timfon John said that the stolen armoured cables have been recovered and that the police are continuing their investigation, and efforts are currently underway to arrest more individuals involved in the syndicate.
“The suspects will be arraigned in court as soon as the investigation is complete,” she added.
