Operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command have recorded another operational breakthrough in their sustained crackdown against men of the underworld.
To this end, the Command’s patrol team, on intensive visibility policing and targeted surveillance based on credible intelligence, conducted a raid operation at a place suspected to be a criminal hideout in Ifiayong Usuk Village, Urban LGA, on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at about 23:05 hours.
DSP Timfon John, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, stated this in a press release issued in Uyo on Wednesday, February 11, 2026.

DSP John said the operation, undertaken in compliance with the directive of the state Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, fsi, for sustained, intelligence-driven raids across the State, led to the busting of the criminal hub.
According to her, “upon sighting the Police patrol vehicle, the principal suspect fled the scene, abandoning the following items: One locally made pistol; One live cartridge; One new Daylong motorcycle without a registration number; One small Itel handset; and substances suspected to be illicit drugs.

“The operation was subsequently extended to Nwaniba Village, where one Joshua Anietie (38 years), male, of Nwaniba Village, was arrested. Wraps of dry weeds suspected to be Indian hemp in commercial quantities were recovered from his possession.

The PPRO said the arrested suspect is currently undergoing investigation, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect.
