Prince Nyong Bags Award At Ibia Ikot Day, Harps On Unity And Peace

The Executive Chairman of Nsit Atai Local Government Area, Hon. Prince Anthony Nyong, has called on Nsit Atai people to sustain the peace and unity currently enjoyed in the local government area.

The Chairman made the call during the 2025 Ibia Ikot Day celebration held at the Asan Ibia Ikot in Nsit Atai Local Government Area on Sunday, December 28, 2025.

The colourful event attracted a large turnout of prominent sons and daughters of Ibia Ikot, who gathered to celebrate their heritage and promote unity within the community.

The event commenced with a welcome address delivered by the host, Prof. Trenchard Ibia, President of the Ibia Ikot Development Forum (IDF).

Prof. Ibia warmly received guests, expressed gratitude to all attendees, and highlighted the significance of the Ibia Ikot Day as a platform for celebrating culture, fostering unity, and encouraging community-driven development.

A major highlight of the occasion was the honour conferred on Prince Nyong in recognition of his inclusive leadership style and commitment to grassroots development.

The presentation of a commemorative portrait to the Chairman was performed by the Paramount Ruler of Nsit Atai Local Government Area, His Royal Majesty, Edidem Prophet Peter Okon Effiong, JP, who eulogised him for his people-oriented leadership and passion for unity. The Chairman was accompanied to the event by his wife, Mrs Emem Nyong.

Also honoured at the event was the Chairman of the occasion, Rt. Hon. Elder Mark Esset, Member representing Uyo Federal Constituency, for his contributions to constituency development and sustained support for community-based initiatives.

In his remarks, Prince Nyong expressed appreciation to the Ibia Ikot people for the honour done him and pledged his unalloyed support for the community.

He also urged the people to set aside differences and embrace unity, stressing that peaceful coexistence remains the foundation of progress in any community. He noted that only a united Ibia Ikot and Nsit Atai can attract meaningful development and lasting growth.

The Chairman further reaffirmed that unity across Nsit Atai Local Government Area is key to sustainable development, adding that his administration remains firmly committed to inclusive governance. According to him, his leadership will continue to respect and protect the rights of all residents, ensuring fairness, equity, and equal opportunities for everyone, irrespective of their background or place of origin.

Speaking earlier, the Special Guest of Honour and Member representing Nsit Atai State Constituency, Prince Aniefiok Attah, described the massive turnout as a clear demonstration of unity and cultural pride. He commended the people for preserving their cultural heritage and pledged his continued support to the Ibia Ikot community whenever the need arises.

Other dignitaries who spoke at the event included Hon. Justice Nsemeke Daniels, Justice of the Supreme Court; Obong Emmanuel Okon, CEO of Eminence Oil and Chemicals; Hon. M.C. Akpan; Hon. Ekpenyong Daniel; Sir Dr John Harry, among others. They all commended the Ibia Ikot people for their unity, cultural consciousness, and commitment to peaceful coexistence.

The event featured colourful cultural displays, traditional rites, and goodwill messages, further reinforcing the Ibia Ikot commitment to unity, peace, and the preservation of its cultural heritage.
