Rivers LGAs Polls: How APC Swept 20 Councils, PDP 3
In what went down as a major turn of events in the politics of Rivers State, the All Progressives Congress (APC) successfully toppled the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) by winning 20 of the 23 local government areas in Saturday’s chairmanship and councillorship elections.
The PDP, which is the ruling party in the state, on the other hand, won only three LGAs in the poll conducted by the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission.
Dramatically, the suspended governor, Siminalayi Fubara, also lost his Opobo-Nkoro LGA to the main opposition party in the state.
The RSIEC chairman, Dr Michael Odey, announced the results Sunday afternoon at the commission’s headquarters along Aba Road in Port Harcourt.

Results as announced by RSIEC showed the winners as Abua/Odual LGA – APC chairman-elect: Ofori Owolabi and vice chairman-elect: Abunu Victoria; Ahoada East – APC chairman-elect: Solomon Achoma and vice chairman-elect: Florence Ndukwu; Ahoada West – APC chairman-elect: Eugene Ebele Cheta and vice chairman-elect: Josephine Uba; Akuku Toru: APC chairman-elect: Bob Fubara A. and vice chairman-elect: Wariagbani George; Andoni – APC chairman-elect: Otuo Loveday Promise and vice chairman-elect: Ezekiel Raphael Abigbani; and Asari Toru LGA – APC chairman-elect: George Onengiyeofori and vice chairman-elect: Deborah Amos Bobmanuel.
Others are Bonny LGA – APC, chairman-elect: Pepple Abinye Blessing and vice chairman-elect: Ibimieye Alagbari; Degema LGA – APC, chairman-elect: Michael George Williams and vice chairman-elect: Harry Maureen; Eleme LGA – APC, chairman-elect: Obarilomate Ollor and vice chairman-elect: Beauty Eke; Emohua LGA – APC, chairman-elect: Lloyd Chidi Julius and vice chairman-elect: Amadi Lilian Obiageri; Etche LGA – APC, chairman-elect: Njoku Boniface Chima and vice chairman-elect: Obele Faith; and Gokana LGA – APC, chairman-elect: Deborah Confidence and vice chairman-elect: Kpobari Epsibari.
For Ikwerre LGA – APC, chairman-elect: Wobodo Charles and vice chairman-elect: Kinika Ethel Chidi; Khana LGA – APC, chairman-elect: Thomas Bariere and vice chairman-elect: Ngbere Mpigi; Obio/Akpor LGA – PDP, chairman-elect: Dr Gift Onyinye Wodo and vice chairman-elect: Dr Gloria Joyce Nyeche; Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni – PDP, chairman-elect: Chukwu Shedrach Ogbodo and vice chairman-elect: Dr Happiness Nwokocha; Ogu/Bolo LGA – APC, chairman-elect: Vincent Nimieboka and vice chairman-elect: Alabo Eunice; and Okrika LGA – APC, chairman-elect: Akuro Alfred Tobin and vice chairman-elect: Obulubo Charity.
