Senator Bassey Albert Pays Homage To Family Of Late Nkanga
…Widow, Brother Describe Senator Albert As Dependable Family Friend
The Senator representing Akwa Ibom North East (Uyo) Senatorial District in the national Assembly, Senator Obong Bassey Albert Akpan (OBA) has described the demise of former Military Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Otuekong Idongesit Nkanga, as a colossal loss to the Senatorial District, Akwa Ibom State and Nigeria as a whole.
Senator Albert, who made the assertion during a condolence visit to the widow and family members at the country home of the late retired military officer at Ikot Nya, Nsit Ibom L.G.A., on Friday, January 29, 2021, remarked that he has missed a pillar of support that spared no effort in ensuring that he succeeds in his assigned responsibilities.
Senator OBA recalled that the departed Elder statesman was among persons who were instrumental to his emergence and subsequent reelection as Senator.
His words, “It is in this house that the entire Ibibio people gathered and endorsed me for a second term. I will miss his mentorship and support as a father and leader.”

Senator OBA, who is the Chairman, Senate Committee on Petroleum Resources (Upstream) and Chairman, Akwa Ibom Caucus in the National Assembly, decried that Akwa Ibom North East (Uyo) Senatorial District has lost to death a hero and pathfinder.
According to him, “there is no way the story of Akwa Ibom North East (Uyo) Senatorial District, Ibibios, Akwa Ibom State, South South Region nay Niger Delta would be written that Otuekong Idongesit Nkanga would not be mentioned.”
The Senator implored Nkanga’s widow, Deaconess Funmi Idongesit Nkanga and all members of the deceased family to imbibe the values represented by their late husband and father while on earth.
He prayed for the repose of Nkanga’s soul and wished the family the strength to bear the irreplaceable loss.
In her response, Her Excellency, Deaconess Funmi Idongesit Nkanga appreciated Senator Bassey Albert Akpan (OBA) for the condolence visit.

“You were always here when he was alive, thank you for coming at this time. We are really encouraged by this gesture. He was very fond of you. We can only pray that the lord will continue to be with you in the discharge of your duties,” she stated.
Also responding, a brother of the deceased, Hon. Elder Amanam Nkanga, who is the Special Adviser, Bureau of Political and Social Re-Orientation, Akwa Ibom State Government, thanked Senator OBA for sustaining his relationship with the family.
Elder Nkanga promised that the family will continue to treat him as a member and ally.
Dignitaries, who were on the condolence visit, included the immediate past Chairman of the Akwa Ibom State Assembly Service Commission, Archbishop Andrew Uwanta; erstwhile State Secretary of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Otuekong Anietie Ekong and the Chapter Chairman of PDP, Nsit Ibom LGA, Rt. Hon. Nsikak Ikpe.
Other bigwigs, who graced the event, were Air Commodore Ekongubong Akpabio, Immediate past vice chairman of Nsit Ibom Local Government Area, Elder Samuel Nkanga, Mr Ekanikpong Nkanga, Councillor representing Mbiaso ward 4, Hon. Eyo Eyo and other members of Nkanga’s family.
