SHARIA COURT OF APPEAL, ABUJA, HONOURS OKU IBOM IBIBIO

...Describes monarch as epitome of peace, unity and development

In a historic display of inter-cultural cooperation and mutual respect, the Grand Kadi and Kadis of the Federal Capital Territory Sharia Court of Appeal, Abuja, paid homage to Oku Ibom Ibibio and the President General of Akwa Ibom State Supreme Council of Traditional Rulers, His Eminent, Ntenyin (Dr.) Solomon Etuk, JP, CFR.

The event, which took place on Monday, December 9, 2024, at the prestigious palace of the supreme monarch in Ikot Ukobo, Nsit Ubium Local Government Area, drew royal fathers and jurists, making it a momentous gathering of grandeur and majesty.

The significant meeting was a testament to the Oku Ibom Ibibio’s immense contributions to the National Council of Traditional Rulers and also his unwavering commitment to maintaining peace, stability, and order in Akwa Ibom State.

In his opening remarks, Dr. Tukur A. Abba disclosed that the visit was an annual tradition, wherein they embark on a study tour to states in the country with historically notable Paramount rulers, adding that this year, they have expanded their scope to the southern region, due to the long-standing relationship between their forebears, with the Palace of Oku Ibom Ibibio serving as their inaugural southern destination.

The leader of the delegation, Hon. Justice Aminu Sa’ad, praised Akwa Ibom’s outstanding approach to fostering harmony among diverse communities and cited the construction of a magnificent mosque in the state as an outstanding example of its commitment to inclusivity.

The gesture, he said, demonstrates the state’s dedication to creating a welcoming environment for people from all walks of life, regardless of their religious beliefs or cultural backgrounds.

Furthermore, Justice Saad pointed out that the Sharia Court of Appeal, a federal institution governing family laws, has formally recognised Ntenyin (Dr.) Etuk’s leadership in Akwa Ibom.

According to him, the acknowledgement goes beyond cultural preservation because of the monarch’s remarkable dedication to fostering national unity, social cohesion, development, and peace in the country.

Oku Ibom Ibibio, while addressing the delegation, expressed his heartfelt delight in hosting them at his palace.

He seized the opportunity to emphasise the bond of unity that exists between the people of Northern and Southern Nigeria, highlighting the importance of fostering harmony and cooperation among all citizens, regardless of their geographical origins.

Ntenyin Etuk further urged the judges to leverage their robust responsibilities in combating negative vices plaguing society and also encouraged them to drive positive change and promote a culture of integrity.

The premier monarch assured them of Akwa Ibom’s cooperation, extending a hand of fellowship that fostered a collaborative environment of unity, progress, and the well-being of all Nigerians.

Also in attendance at the visit were HRM Odidem Bassey Etim Edet, Paramount Ruler of Udung Uko L.G.A. and Chairman of Akwa Ibom State Supreme Council of Traditional Rulers; HRM Edidem Sylvanus Effiong Okon, Paramount Ruler of Uyo L.G.A.; HRM Edidem Peter Okon Effiong, Paramount Ruler of Nsit Atai L.G.A.; HRM Edidem Cosmas Bassey Nkanga, Paramount Ruler of Uruan L.G.A.; HRM Edidem Aniefiok Akpanobong, Paramount Ruler of Etinan L.G.A.; Alhaji Hassan Sadauki; Sarkin Hausawa, Akwa Ibom; His Highness, Etebom Ukpong Udoewah, Clan Head of Ubium; and other village heads from the area.

The meeting was electrified by captivating performances from traditional dance troupes.
