Tambuwal Not Defecting To APC, Claims Are False — Media Office

By AniedoAbasi Okon

The media office of Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has dismissed claims circulating on social media that the former Sokoto State Governor is planning to defect from the African Democratic Congress, ADC, to the All Progressives Congress, APC.

In a press statement issued on Monday, October 19, 2026, and signed by his Special Adviser on Media & Strategy, Prince Daniel, the AWT Media Office described the reports as false and baseless.

The statement said, “For the avoidance of doubt, Senator Tambuwal has no plans to join the APC. Suggestions to the contrary are false, baseless and should be disregarded.”

The media office noted that Senator Tambuwal is a respected statesman with wide network of friendships and longstanding relationships across party lines, built over years of public service, which should not be misrepresented as evidence of a change in political allegiance.

According to the statement, photographs and video clips being circulated do not establish any defection plan.

“Political civility is no proof of political realignment. Exchanging greetings or interacting with members of another party does not amount to negotiating a change of allegiance,” it added.

The media office reaffirmed that Senator Tambuwal remains firmly committed to the ADC, with focus on strengthening the party, building broad cooperation and mobilising Nigerians ahead of the 2027 general elections.

It urged the public and media organisations to verify claims with the AWT Media Office before publication and not allow unfounded speculation distract from pressing economic, security and governance challenges facing the country.
