TROMPCON Life Patron HRM Archianga Bags Professorship From UK University

National Life Patron of Traditional Rulers of Oil Mineral Producing Communities of Nigeria (TROMPCON) and Paramount Ruler of Ibeno Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, His Royal Majesty Owong (Dr.) Effiong Bassey Archianga, has added a Professorship feather to his academic attainments.

 

Dr. Archianga was awarded the honour by the prestigious Saint Thomas-a-Becket University, Canterbury, England, during her 2021/2022 Conferment of Honour/ Convocation for students and professionals under the institution’s African Educational Services on Saturday, February 5, 2022.

 

The event which was held at the Onyema Ugochukwu Hall of the University of Uyo in Akwa Ibom State, also featured induction of eminent personalities into the UK based institution’s hall of fame.

 

In his welcome speech, Prof Sir Paul Hanson, the Director of African Studies, acknowledged that the graduands have been found worthy in character and learning.

 

Prof Hanson added that HRM Archianga and other professorial and doctorial awardees, through their achievements and repertoire of academic works, passed the institution’s merit list as topmost scholars.

“St. Thomas a Becket University, Canterbury, United Kingdom is a multi-disciplinary school and one of the oldest in the world having a distant learning arm extended to Nigeria.

 

“The Open Heavens Ministerial College is fully affiliated and impacting greatly in Christian Education Department. St. Thomas a-Becket University, Canterbury is concerned about thorough education and a positive display of academic prowess.

 

“Those on our list of awardees were carefully selected without prejudice and personal application. Dr. Efiong Asukwo Eyefoki, Dr. Effiong Bassey Archianga, Dr. Iwara Abam Iwara, have been selected for Professorial award by this college,” he stated.

 

He declared that “by this conferment, they shall henceforth be officially by law be credited and recognized as per these awards and titles here-in-to-fore.”

In his remarks, HRM Dr. Archianga, who also served as Chairman on the occasion, thanked the institution for the award and reassured the institution of his commitment to its academic pursuits and development.

The Royal father hailed the high standards set by the university and stressed that “the exercise (conferment) today is not just an investiture of bogus title but a conferment of due status and honour to the awardees that have the requirement of acceptation or rejection.”

 

The monarch, who is the Chancellor of the University, enjoined all awardees to be prepared to defend the honours done them with all abilities.

 

“Ibeno people, under my leadership, have donated sizeable parcels of land with uncompleted buildings for the permanent site of St. Thomas-a-Becket University in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria and Africa,” he announced.

 

Furthermore, Archianga appealed for the approval of an affiliation between University of Uyo and St. Thomas-a-Becket University for programmes. “This will go a long way to mitigate the hardship experienced by our sons and daughters who seek admission outside the State due to the limited admission quota allotted to your University, and will equally create employments for our unemployed graduates and others in the State,” he added.

 

The St. Thomas-a-Becket University, Canterbury was founded in 1170 AD, registered as St.Thomas-a-Becket Educational Services, and is internationally accredited by Lutheran University, France, as the educational arm of the Wesley Synod International Missions. It is named after Thomas-a-Becket (1162AD-1170 AD), Archbishop of Canterbury who was martyred at Canterbury Cathedral in 1170 AD.
