Uyo HOLGS Commends Chairman, Charges Staff On Discipline And Professionalism
...Mandates Corporate Dressing, ID Cards; Warns Against Mail Routing Sabotage
The Head of Local Government Service (HOLGS), Uyo Local Government Council, Mr Etiuwem Udo, has commended the Chairman of the Council, Dr Uwemedimo Udo, for creating a conducive working environment for staff while charging workers to reciprocate the administration’s efforts through improved attitude, discipline, and commitment to duty.
Mr Udo gave the commendation on Monday, September 14, 2026, during the Council’s General Staff Meeting held at the Secretariat, Uyo.
According to him, the Chairman’s leadership has transformed the working environment in the Council, with offices now properly furnished and providing an atmosphere conducive to productivity and efficient service delivery.

He noted that while management had continued to prioritise staff welfare and workplace improvement, workers must also play their part by adhering strictly to the rules and regulations guiding the Public Service.
“The beauty of service is respect for hierarchy,” he emphasised, stressing that discipline and due process remain fundamental to effective public service.

The HOLGS explained that the meeting became necessary following his recent engagement with the Head of the Akwa Ibom State Civil Service and was aimed at communicating new expectations and standards to workers.

He subsequently directed staff to change their attitude towards work, embrace professionalism and familiarise themselves with the Civil Service Rules, ensuring that their conduct, appearance and performance reflect the standards expected of public servants.
Mr Udo announced a dress code for staff, stating that corporate dressing and the use of valid identity cards would be mandatory from Monday to Wednesday, while decent dressing would be expected on Thursdays and Fridays. He also warned against coloured hair and excessive makeup, stressing the need for workers to maintain standards consistent with public service regulations.
Reaffirming his commitment to staff welfare, the HOLGS praised Dr Uwemedimo Udo for his responsiveness to workers’ needs and sustained support for staff welfare.

“My Chairman has been a very listening Chairman,” he said, noting that the administration had continued to address issues affecting workers promptly.
Mr Udo revealed that staff members were currently benefiting from a ₦100,000 one-time welfare support package and assured those yet to receive the support that they would eventually be captured.
“Everybody will certainly be touched,” he assured.

He further disclosed that officers operating imprest had consistently received their monthly imprest allocations since his assumption of office, describing the development as a significant improvement in staff support and administrative efficiency.
The HOLGS also commended the Chairman for maintaining a cordial relationship with the labour union and ensuring that matters concerning staff welfare receive prompt attention.
He warned workers against engaging in actions capable of undermining their colleagues or disrupting official processes. He specifically frowned at the unauthorised routing of official mails, describing the practice as a serious offence that could attract disciplinary measures, including queries.
Mr Udo urged staff to follow established channels in handling official correspondence and to cultivate a workplace culture built on cooperation, professionalism, and mutual respect.
The HOLGS also unveiled activities lined up for the 2026 Public Service Week and encouraged workers to participate actively in the programme. He noted that the inclusion of local government staff in the activities marked a significant development and called on workers to take advantage of the opportunities for engagement and professional growth.
He particularly urged staff to participate in the Public Service Week Carnival Float scheduled for Saturday, September 26, 2026.
Mr Udo expressed optimism that the new measures and initiatives would strengthen discipline, improve productivity and enhance service delivery across the Council.
Present at the meeting were the Director of Administration and General Services, Mrs Veronica Ekanem; Director of Finance, Pst (Mrs) Udeme Paul; Director of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Pst (Mrs) Lucy Isong; Director of BPRS, Pastor Inyang Inyang; Director of SDEISC, Mr Boniface Otu; Deputy Directors of Administration and Finance; as well as the NULGE Chairman and members of the union’s executive.
