Will Akwa Ibom Go Continental?
After the initial slow start to the season, Akwa United have gathered momentum and are crusing close to the top.
In their first few matches, Akwa United posted results that got their supporters wearing long and glum faces while also losing patience. So disturbing were the initial results that thr management and Coach John Obuh parted ways.
But having overcome whatever the obstacles were, the team are now sitting in a pretty position that could earn them a continental ticket.
At the start of the season, the chairman of the club and senior special assistant to the governor on sport, Elder Paul Bassey, talked about winning the league this time around.
Although the team started on a wrong note, all is not lost now that they have ascended to the fifth position in the league.
Having got back into their strides, Akwa United may be unstoppable henceforth and will now goal the way to battle for the topmost spot.
While Akwa United have finally begun to gather momentum, their healthy rivals and brothers Dakkada International and are already rising to the faith of greatness. Dakkada have taken the elite division by storm and are joint on fifth position with their elder brothes Akwa United on 23 points from 14 matches.
Dakkada only gained promotion to the professional league this season but are already breaking grounds and are clearly challenging for the top.
They are already making a statement that they are not in the league to make up the numbers but to win the competition.
With both teams performing wonderfully so far, it is most likely Akwa ibom State will go continental next season if Akwa United and Dakkada finish among the top four teams.
