World Environment Day: Champion Breweries Plc Takes Advocacy For Cleaner, Healthier Environment To Akpanandem Market

Determined to make a noticeable difference in ensuring a healthier and cleaner environment, the management and staff of Champion Breweries Plc, Uyo, celebrated the 2025 World Environment Day with a massive advocacy and clean-up exercise at the popular Akpanandem Market in Uyo Akwa Ibom State.
Led by the Managing Director/ Chief Executive officer of the company, Dr. Inalegwu Adoga, the event under the global theme, “End Plastic Pollution” started at the premises of the company where staff were properly sensitized on the implications and harmful effects of poor disposal of plastic waste to the environment before moving to the market.
Addressing traders at the Akpanadem Market, Dr. Adoga said the Company has come to Akpanadem Market not just to clean, but to collaborate. Not just to sweep, but to sensitize.

According to him, “We are here to raise awareness about the dangers of plastic pollution and to stand in partnership with this market community in promoting better waste practices.
He added, “While I am proud to say that Champion Breweries Plc does not generate plastic waste in its operations, we recognize that plastic pollution affects everyone. Whether it clogs our drains, pollutes our waterways, or harms our health, it is a problem we must confront together.
The Managing Director further emphasized that the market is more than a place of business adding that it is a living part of this community and Keeping it clean is not only good for trade, but also for our health, our children, and our shared future.
He encouraged the traders to be conscious of their usage of plastic materials, ensure the disposal of waste properly, and speak to others about what they have learned today.
Adoga said ”Around the world, individuals, organizations, and communities are coming together to take action, and we at Champion Breweries Plc are proud to be part of that movement.
He disclosed that environmental responsibility at Champion Breweries Plc is a core part of a sustainability strategy, which is anchored on six key pillars, two of which are especially relevant today.
In his words, “First, our commitment to “Decarbonize to Mitigate Climate Change,” which guides how we manage our operations, reduce emissions, and embrace renewable energy.

He urged the traders to bear in mind that the work of protecting our environment begins with everyone, not just at work, but also in our homes and our daily lives. “Each of us can be an ambassador for change,” he added.
He advised, “Let’s leave this market not just cleaner, but better informed. Let’s take the message of sustainability beyond today’s event and into the choices we make every day.

Also speaking at the event, the Chairman of Akpanandem Market, Mr Micheal James, expressed deep-seated gratitude to the Management of Champion Breweries Plc for bringing the awareness campaign to the market and also partaking in cleaning up the area.
He acknowledged the modest efforts the market management has made to ensure that the area is clean and hygienic for both traders and customers and promised to redouble their efforts in ensuring proper disposal of plastic and other waste generated daily from the market.
The highlight of the advocacy visit was the clean-up of all plastic materials which littered the market by the team from Champion Breweries Plc.
