The state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Comrade Ini Ememobong, made this known while addressing Government House Correspondents shortly after the Executive Council meeting held, Monday, at Government House, Uyo.

He said that the power situation in the state came under review at the Executive Council meeting and the Commissioner for Power and Petroleum Development has been directed to liaise with the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHEDC), to ensure that throughout the yuletide and generally thereafter the state enjoys improved power supply.

“…this is an area that the state government has made a lot of investment and we should be able to enjoy a lot of benefit from it”, he stated.

He added that the state government intervention project to restore power supply at the Uyo Correctional Centre has been completed.

According to him, “The Commissioner for Power and Petroleum Development reported that the state has intervened and restored power supply at the Uyo Correctional Centre which has suffered power outage for a while”.

The Info boss explained that the gesture was in line with the tradition of the government of Akwa Ibom State to ensure that infrastructure of government at any level is protected, hence its intervention in the federal government-owned facility.

On the prevailing economic situation in the country, he told the reporters that the governor has expressed regret over the downward trend of all indices in the nation and urged all to pray for the nation and President Buhari.

“…all the indices are facing down and we need to brace up as a people, we need to take individual responsibility while government is also taking responsibility; the country as a whole needs our prayers and support and His Excellency is asking that we continually pray for the President and the people as a whole”, Ememobong admonished.
