4000 New Recruits Filled Identified Vacancies, Not To Bloat Service – Gov Eno

...Urges workers to be at their best, commends President Tinubu for funding to States

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has said the recruitment of 4,000 new public servants was strictly to fill identified gaps in the state civil service and not to bloat the system.

Governor Eno stated this on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, at the orientation ceremony for the newly recruited officers held at the Ibom Tropicana Event Center, Uyo.

He explained that a staff verification exercise conducted at the inception of his administration uncovered over 2,000 ghost workers and several retired personnel still on payroll. With leakages blocked, he said, it became imperative to recruit to fill the vacancies and strengthen the service for optimal performance.

“There was a huge vacancy gap in the Service. We are not recruiting to bloat the service but to strengthen it and make it more efficient for excellent work output.

“Governance is serious business for serious-minded people. This recruitment was done out of utmost exigency and to fill available vacancies to make the system function effectively. They are fit for purpose,” the Governor said.

Governor Eno reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to prompt payment of salaries and gratuities, and commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for making funds available to states to enhance project execution and payment of emoluments.

He charged the new employees to be diligent, digitally compliant and exemplary in their conduct, noting that the State is in the process of full digitalisation of its services.

“As our children, the reason we sent you to school was for you to come back with new and better ideas to transform the way we do things. We expect this crop of civil servants to be the brightest and the best we have ever had.

“We expect you to be committed, passionate and transparent in the execution of your responsibilities. Do well to keep this job, do well to do the job you asked for, and do well to excel for the good of our State and yourselves,” he said.

He further urged them to deploy innovation and maintain respectful engagement with superiors to promote excellent service delivery.

Earlier, the Head of Civil Service, Mrs. Elsie Peters, lauded the visionary leadership of Governor Eno, which she said has repositioned the service for greater efficiency. She assured that the calibre of personnel recruited will revitalize the service, and thanked the Governor for the orientation and training programme.

On behalf of the 4,000 new workers, Miss Etoroabasi Enobong presented a message of appreciation and a gift to the Governor, describing him as a father and leader of inestimable value.

The event was attended by the Chief of Staff, Mr. Aniefiok Johnson, members of the State Executive Council, political stakeholders and other government functionaries.
