A’Ibom Govt Commences Payment Of New Minimum Wage – HOS
The Akwa Ibom State government has finally commenced the payment of the new minimum wage to workers in the state civil service.
The payment is reflected in the February 2020 payment for civil servants.
The Head of Civil Service, Elder Effiong Essien, has hailed the actualization of the new minimum wage pact, as recently entered into by the Akwa Ibom State Government and the organized labour on Thursday, January 23, 2020.
Elder Essien described the payment of the new wage, with arrears, in the February 2020 salary, as assured by Governor Udom Gabriel Emmanuel, as another convincing demonstration of his sincere concern for the Akwa Ibom workers.
The Head of Civil Service, who is also the Chairman of the AKS Committee on the Implementation of the New National Minimum Wage, charged workers not to relent in their dedication and support to the worker-friendly Governor in order to enable him achieve more for the workers and the state as well as deliver on his Completion Agenda.
Elder Essien, while interacting with some labour leaders and workers who called to appreciate government’s sincerity in making good the promise, also extended his appreciation to the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Emmanuel Ekuwem, who is the Chairman of the Exco Committee on the Implementation of the New Minimum Wage in the state and other members of the Committee for delivering on the onerous assignment.

The Civil Service helmsman also commended the organized labour, ably led by the Chairman, Joint Public Service Negotiating Council, Comrade Tina Essien, and the workers for their understanding while the negotiation lasted.
He hoped for continued cordial labour relations in the state.
