AKHA: Bill for Free Tuition/Examination Passes Second Reading

 

 

Pupils and students in public primary and secondary schools in Akwa Ibom State would now enjoy absolute free tuition and examination fees as the state government is making appropriate legal frameworks to set it in motion.

 

This results from the move by the state house of Assembly to sponsor a bill to establish a law for the provision of Free Tuition and Examination Fees in Public Schools in the state.

 

The Bill being sponsored by the Leader of the House and member, Oruk Anam State Constituency, Rt. Hon. Udo Kierian Akpan has passed its second reading. Saying, “the bill has the intention to promoting quality education, in line with the standard and norms of high scholarly learning.” Udo Kierian added that the bill seeks to provide formal education as well as paying examination fees for Akwa Ibom children from primary to secondary school levels.

 

The lawmaker observed that a child or parent shall not be held responsible for payment of any kind or charges in any public school.“He submitted that anyone found to contravene the law will be made to face disciplinary actions, in line with the public service rules applicable in the state.

 

The speaker of the house, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey had referred the bill to the house committee on education for indepth deliberation and to report back in one month.
