AKHA Oversight Committee Commends Nsit Atai Chairman Over Developmental Strides
The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly (AKHA) Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs has commended the Executive Chairman of Nsit Atai Local Government Area, Hon. Prince Anthony Nyong, for his prudent management of public resources and the remarkable developmental strides recorded under his administration.
The AKHA Oversight Committee made the commendation during its visit to Nsit Atai Local Government Area to assess projects executed by the Council.
The delegation, led by the Chairman of the Committee, Rt. Hon. Elder Mfon Idung, was received at the Council Secretariat, Odot, by the Executive Chairman, Prince Anthony Nyong, alongside members of the Executive Council and the Legislative Council.

Prince Nyong, on their arrival, led the lawmakers on an inspection tour of key projects, beginning with the ongoing construction of the Local Government Main Administrative Building at the Council Secretariat. He also took them to inspect other strategic projects executed by his administration as part of the oversight exercise.
Following the inspection, the Executive Chairman presented the Committee with a comprehensive compendium of completed, ongoing and intervention projects undertaken by the Council.

Welcoming the lawmakers, he expressed appreciation to the Committee for the visit and described the oversight exercise as a vital mechanism for promoting transparency, accountability and effective service delivery in local government administration.
He explained that the projects executed by his administration were inspired by the ARISE Agenda of the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, PhD, and driven by a commitment to delivering sustainable development across the local government area.
The Chairman highlighted key achievements of his administration, including the ongoing construction of the Local Government Main Administrative Building, renovation of the Council Hall, construction of the Council perimeter fence and main gate, landscaping and beautification of the Council Secretariat, rehabilitation of the Security Annex, rehabilitation and grading of over 60 kilometres of internal roads, and the rehabilitation of the Council grader, which had been abandoned for nine years, to improve road maintenance.
He also outlined interventions in the power sector, including the installation of 500kVA transformers at Ndon Ikot Itie Udung Village and the Council Secretariat, as well as the rehabilitation of the transformer serving Ikot Abasi Village, restoring electricity to the community.
In the water sector, the Chairman highlighted the rehabilitation and commissioning of seven solar-powered water facilities across five wards, the provision of solar-powered boreholes at the Divisional Police Headquarters and the INEC Office in Idiaba/Odot, as well as support for additional community water projects.
On healthcare, Hon. Nyong listed the restoration of an ambulance for the Primary Health Centre, Odot; free medical outreaches through which over 70 indigent residents benefitted from surgeries, including hernia and appendicitis operations; the supply of essential drugs to selected health facilities; rehabilitation of the solar-powered water facility at the Primary Health Centre, Iwok Nsit; and continued support for pregnant women and the elderly.
Other achievements highlighted included the establishment of the Umo Eno Model Farm, educational interventions through the distribution of school bags, learning materials and 25,000 customised exercise books, refurbishment of abandoned official vehicles, presentation of official vehicles to the Secretary and the Leader of the Legislative Council, sponsorship of Team Nsit Atai to the Akwa Ibom State Sports Festival, where the Local Government finished third overall with 39 medals, sustained monthly financial support to vulnerable families, business support for traders, and assistance to persons living with disabilities.
Responding, the Chairman of the House Committee, Rt. Hon. Elder Mfon Idung, commended the Executive Chairman for the impressive quality of projects executed across the Local Government Area. He observed that the projects reflected prudent management of public resources, transparency, accountability and purposeful leadership, adding that the administration had demonstrated a strong commitment to grassroots development in line with the ARISE Agenda of the Akwa Ibom State Government.
Also speaking, the member representing Ibiono Ibom State Constituency, Hon. Moses Essien, praised the remarkable transformation taking place at the Council Secretariat, particularly the ongoing construction of the Main Administrative Building. He described the projects as evidence of responsible leadership and effective resource management and encouraged the Chairman to sustain the pace of development.
At the conclusion of the exercise, the House Committee expressed satisfaction with the projects inspected and the comprehensive compendium of projects presented by the Council. The lawmakers commended the Executive Chairman for the visible impact of his administration’s interventions and urged him to sustain the pace of development for the benefit of the people of Nsit Atai.
