
The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has busted a criminal ring in Uruan Local Government Area with the successful arrest of a suspected ritualist and recovery of a firearm.
According to DSP Timfon John, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command, in a press release issued on Friday, August 8, 2025, operatives of the command, acting on credible intelligence, had on July 29, 2025, swooped on a shrine in Nung Oku Village in Uruan LGA.
In the raid, the Police successfully apprehended one Cletus Effiong Bassey, a 30-year-old man, at the shrine, which he operates, using it for ritualistic activities, including preparing native charms and “bullet repellers” for armed robbers.
DSP Timfon John added that a further search of his compound led to the recovery of one fabricated single-barrelled gun.
The press release stated, “On July 29, 2025, at approximately 18:51 hours, Operatives acting on credible intelligence apprehended one Cletus Effiong Bassey, a 30-year-old male, at his shrine in Nung Oku Village, Uruan LGA. Bassey is suspected of being involved in ritualistic activities, including providing native charms and “bullet repellers” to armed robbers.
“A subsequent search of his compound led to the recovery of one fabricated single-barrel gun.”
She assured that the Police are intensifying the investigation into the matter.
