Akwa Ibom Students Attacked In Nsukka After Gov. Emmanuel’s Cash Donation

Ofonime Honesty

Some students of Akwa Ibom State origin in University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Enugu State, have sustained various degrees of injuries after being attacked following Governor Udom Emmanuel’s cash donation to them.

The Governor earlier on Thursday served as Guest Speaker on the 2021 edition of university’s Founders Day.

Multiple reliable sources in Nsukka said the incident occurred at the main campus of the institution.

The students under the aegis of National Association of Akwa Ibom State Students (NAAKISS) had a brief interaction with the governor after his speech at the event before a parcel containing money was handed out to them by the governor through a member of his protocol team.

The governor and his entourage barely left the scene when a multitude of other students reportedly pounced on the Akwa Ibom students. In the ensuing squabble, the money was scattered even as some of the Akwa Ibom students were beaten to pulp. The affected students also lost their valuables including phones.

Some of the students are said to be in coma in hospitals while contact is yet to be established with others who fled with various degrees of injuries.
