ALSCON Staff School Crowned Champions of PPDF School Environmental Quiz Competition 

Students of ALSCON Staff School in Ikot Abasi Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State were on Friday, September 30, 2022, crowned champions of the 3rd edition of the Peace Point Development Foundation (PPDF) Environmental and Climate Change School Quiz Competition.
The 2022 edition of the competition at Ikot Abasi local government council hall had five secondary schools drawn from Ibeno and Ikot Abasi local government areas where PPDF has established schools and environmental clubs and is also working in the communities to promote the environment and climate justice.
The keenly contested quiz competition saw ALSCON Staff School emerge 2022 champions with 25 points.
Mkpanak Community Secondary School, Ibeno emerged runners up with 21 points while Secondary Grammar School, Ibeno emerged second runners up with 18 points.
The 4th position went to Secondary Commercial School, Ibekwe who scored 15 points while Unity comprehensive secondary school Ikot Abasi who had 13 points came last.
According to the Coordinator of Peace Point Development Foundation, Comrade Umo Isua-Ikoh, the competition which started in 2018 is geared toward raising the awareness of the students about the importance of a safe environment among secondary school students in the oil and gas communities of Akwa Ibom State.
While commending the competing schools for their level of intelligence shown towards the training they have received at the environmental clubs PPDF established in their schools, the Coordinator charged the students to take their learning beyond schools to practice within their environment.

He said ” We are certain that this quiz competition will provide you with the necessary knowledge and information to make your environment safer and equip you with information on personal choices that affect the environment and also how you can avoid risky practices that can expose your environment to danger. Do not just answer the questions. Put what you have answered to practice and grow with it.”
The Director, Climate Change, Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Environment and Solid Mineral, Mrs Ini Umoh commended Peace Point Development Foundation for the yearly environmental quiz competition and the quality of the competition noting that it does not only raise the intelligence quotient of the students but has established them as environmental ambassadors in their communities.
The Director who applauded the effort of the quiz winners admonished the students to take advantage of the knowledge and academic excellence imparted to them as they prepare to be environmental ambassadors.
She said ” In whatever you do, I want you to hold the memory of this competition dear. The PPDF believes in students like you growing up to becoming safe environmental champions that is why the PPDF is investing resources to train you at the environmental clubs in your schools and then the reward during the yearly competition. Please, make this count”.
The Winner of the competition went back with a N50,000 prize while the 2nd position got N40,000 and 3rd position N30,000.
Other participating Schools went home with a N10,000 consolation prize.
