Anchor Insurance Donates COVID-19 Equipment To AKSG
Anchor Insurance company Limited has donated 150 cartons of facemask, 30 cartons of hand gloves and 45 cartons of hand sanitiser to Akwa Ibom State Government.
This is in support of the fight against COVID-19 pandemic in the state.
Dr Elijah Akpan, Chairman, Board of Directors of the company, who presented the items to the state government on Tuesday, July 21,2020 at Government House, Uyo, lauded Governor Udom Emmanuel for his huge investment in the health sector.
The chairman also appreciated the efforts of COVID-19 Management Committee chaired by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Emmanuel Ekuwem, which he said has helped greatly in curtailing the spread of the deadly virus in Akwa Ibom.

Akpan, who is also the Chairman of Akwa Ibom Investment Corporation (AKICORP), said the donation was one of the company’s ways of reciprocating the benevolence of the state government to the company.
According to him, Anchor Insurance is 60 per cent owned by the Akwa Ibom State Government with over 70 per cent of its workforce being indigenes of the state.
“We’re here to show our appreciation to the state government for supporting Anchor Insurance as a company to this point.Without the help of the state government, I don’t know if the company would have remained till today.We’re here to support the state government in the fight against COVID-19,” Dr Akpan stated.
Receiving the items on behalf of the state government, the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Emmanuel Ekuwem, reiterated that Akwa Ibom State Government is one of the primary promoters of Anchor Insurance.
The SSG thanked the company for the kind gesture, noting that the donation is a demonstration of the respect and values the company has for human lives.
Dr Ekuwem, who is also the chairman of COVID-19 Management Committee said,
“Let me on behalf of His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr Udom Emmanuel, who is the leader in this fight against COVID-19 appreciate Anchor Insurance for this kind gesture.
“Anchor Insurance, for you to have deem it fit to bring this support to His Excellency, the Governor who is the leader of the fight against COVID-19 shows that without human beings the company would have nothing to insure.
You’re insuring things so that they can be useful and be an asset to human beings,” Dr Ekuwem stated.
He assured the company that the donation would go a long way in complementing Government’s efforts in containing the spread of the virus in Akwa Ibom State.
