In furtherance of its ongoing investigation into a case of criminal conspiracy, cultism, armed robbery, and unlawful possession of firearms, Operatives of the State Police Command have nabbed another suspect and recovered additional firearms.
DSP Timfon John, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command, stated this in a press release issued in Uyo, on Thursday, September 11, 2025.
According to the PPRO, the operation, which began with a case under investigation led to the initial recovery of one locally made pistol on August 27, 2025.
She said that “acting on new intelligence and as a follow-up to the initial recovery, Operatives of the Command on September 3, 2025, at approximately 4:00 am conducted an operation at Ikot Ekop/Ataifa community in Etinan Local Government Area.
“During the operation, the Police recovered one single-barrel rifle, four live cartridges, and five expended cartridges.”

The PPRO said a suspect by name, Bassey Dennis Bassey, was also arrested at Ataifa Village, Etinan.
She stressed that “the operation is a testament to the police’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of the public.”
DSP John said efforts are currently underway to recover more firearms and apprehend other suspects linked to these criminal activities.
