Eleme Protest: RIWAMA Appeals To Residents To Bear With Service Providers

Sole Administrator, Rivers State Management Agency (RIWAMA), Bro Felix Obuah has called for understanding and co-operation from members of the public over a minor setback in the evacuation of wastes due to early morning protest by hundreds of youths who took over the Eleme-Onne axis of the East-West Road, Monday, July 26, 2021.

The Sole Administrator, who felt personally touched by the incident, regretted that due to blockage of roads by the rampaging youths protesting the sorry state of the Eleme-Onne section of the East-West Road, most of the trucks of the Service Providers engaged by the Agency were demobilized while on their way from one of the agency’s dumpsites in Eleme, and some, on their way to the dumpsite and could not continue with their duties for several hours.

Bro Obuah said while hopes are high for the quick resolution of the youth protest, the agency is not resting on its oars to ensure that wastes are not allowed to accumulate on account of the protest.

As soon as logistics are concluded, he said, more vehicles would be mobilized on sites to help evacuate any accumulated wastes in and around the affected areas covered by the agency.

The RIWAMA boss said the agency will continue to give priority attention to the health of Rivers people and residents drawing from the incontrovertible stand of the Gov Wike administration on environmental sanitation and healthy living conditions of the people.
