Federal Government, Don’t Runway From Responsibility

LETTER TO EDITOR

Few months from today, there may be no access road that would link Akwa Ibom and Abia States due to completely impassible condition of Ikot Ekpene/Aba Road.
A particular portion of the said road has failed totally beyond disrepair such that even the indigenes of the community where road traversed are contemplating whether to use the already abandoned portion to cultivate rice, plantain or palm tree.
The road is more than deplorable, not even trucks can drive through it again apart from motorcyclists whose safety is not guaranteed by attempting to do so.
More worrisome, is the sudden withdrawal of all the Federal Government key agencies such as the High way Patrol team of the Nigeria Police Force, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Vehicles Inspection Officers, VIO and Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, etc.
As a responsible government, President Buhari should mandate the Federal Ministry of works, Federal Road Maintenance Agency, FERMA, or Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs to urgently mobilize to site and ensure that the road is in good condition for motorist and other road users to ameliorate their sufferings.
