Gov Eno Tasks MDAs, Contractors To Fast-Track Transport Projects For Year-End Delivery

...Says Oron Maritime Infrastructure and Ferry Project 85% Complete

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, PhD, has directed Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) and contractors handling transportation projects in the state to fast-track work and ensure delivery before the end of 2026.

Governor Eno gave the directive on Thursday, October 8, 2026, during a comprehensive briefing by the relevant MDAs and contractors on the progress of ongoing transport infrastructure and equipment projects.

The Governor said the projects were initiated to improve transportation services, enhance connectivity and provide citizens with efficient and cost-effective mobility, stressing that delays in delivery would not be tolerated.

On the Oron Maritime Infrastructure and Ferry Project, Governor Eno said the project holds huge economic, tourism and security benefits for the state. He noted that the facilities will stimulate commercial activities, strengthen maritime operations and improve transportation along the state’s waterways.

He directed all relevant agencies and contractors to put measures in place to ensure timely completion, smooth commissioning and effective take-off of the project.

The Oron project, which is said to be 85 percent complete, comprises a terminal building, passenger jetty, cargo jetty, Joint Task Force (JTF) jetty, floating bar, warehouses, dry storage facilities, fish processing and drying sections, solar-powered cold rooms for fishmongers, and a recreational area.

The facilities are expected to support passenger and cargo movement, fish preservation and processing, maritime security and tourism development.

Other projects reviewed during the briefing include the status of the two ferries ordered by government, the CNG buses and associated terminal infrastructure. The Governor charged the MDAs and contractors to sustain momentum and ensure the projects deliver their intended benefits to the people.

He reiterated the need for effective coordination, close monitoring and timely resolution of challenges to achieve the year-end delivery target.

Present at the briefing were the Deputy Governor, Senator Akon Eyakenyi; Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah; Executive Assistant/Chief Delivery Advisor, Mr Aniefiok Johnson; Commissioner for Transport, Dr Anthony Luke; members of the State Executive Council and other government officials.
