It was an ecstatic moment in Ibiono Eastern Ward I, Unit 005 in Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area as the Governorship candidate of Young Progressives Party (YPP), Akwa Ibom State, Senator Bassey Albert Akpan (OBA) CON arrived to cast his vote in the gubernatorial poll on Saturday, March 18, 2023.
Senator Albert, accompanied by his wife, Pastor (Mrs.) Imaobong Nkeiru Albert arrived at the polling unit located at the Christian Methodist Primary School, Ididep Usuk at exactly 11:30 am amidst excitement among voters for the governorship hopeful.
Speaking after participating in the exercise, OBA remarked that the gubernatorial/State House of Assembly elections have witnessed improvement in conduct by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as compared to the last Presidential and National Assembly Elections.
He however noted that reports from some parts of the State were unpalatable, which may necessitate a cancellation and re-conduct of the polls by INEC to remedy the anomalies.
Senator Albert expressed confidence that with the exercise being free, fair and transparent across the state, he will surely emerge victorious as the next Governor of Akwa Ibom State.
He said, “I must confess that today the people of Akwa Ibom will make history as they willingly and consciously determine who leads them in the next dispensation and I believe that if the process is free and without any hindrance then YPP will carry the day by the grace of God.
“So I congratulate my people for coming out en mass to vote for YPP and I congratulate Akwa Ibom people for also ensuring that their votes count.”
“I’ve just exercised my franchise as a citizen of this country and of course, I have voted for myself and my party in the governorship and the House of Assembly Elections.
“Let me congratulate INEC because the hiccups and obstacles in the last election have been eradicated. The materials were on site on or before 8 o’clock and that is quite commendable as you can see and the turnout is good.
“Based on the information from our agents across the State and across my local government area, I believe the exercise is averagely peaceful.
“I’m happy with the consciousness of the people to vote and defend their votes. We’ve had skirmishes in Uyo Local Government Area, like I’ve been told by our agents there, precisely in Ward 6 of Offot Clan where agents of PDP hijacked materials.
“My state party chairman has informed me of other incidents and we’ll chronicle all and forward a letter on the anomalies which I believe constitute enough facts to cancel the results in those areas.
