Ifim Ibom Ibibio, the conclave of all traditional rulers of Ibibio Land has mourned Late Major General Edet Adam Akpan, an Elder Statesman, who died recently.
The body also known as the Supreme Council of Ibibio Traditional Rulers, in its letter of condolence to the bereaved family on Saturday, July 18, 2020, lamented that a rare gem has gone.
It read, “Ifim Ibom Ibibio is deeply touched by the demise of your dear father, Elder (Major-General) Edet Adams Akpan (Rtd.), OFR, mni, Fss,Mss, Dss.
“Unequivocally, General Akpan was a very illuminating example in life. In the Nigerian Army where he served, and rose to the enviable height of a Major-General before retiring, and indeed other spheres of activities, he stood out brilliantly as a great Ibibio son and patriot.”
Ifim Ibom Ibibio in the condolence message, signed by its Secretary General, HRM, Edidem Raymond Inyang, who is the Paramount Ruler of Onna Local Government Area said, “His immense contributions to Akwa Ibom State both towards her creation, unity, peace and development were quite noticeable and appreciated.”
“His impact was felt in our communal agitation for equitable benefit from our God-given natural resources and political inclusiveness in the Nigerian project.
“Indeed, we have missed an indefatigable personality and an Elder Statesman, who believed in one Nigeria, and opted for her defence through serving, meritoriously, in the Army.
“We rise together, as the conclave of all traditional rulers of Ibibio nation, to convey our deep sympathy to you and your entire family on this painful and irreplaceable loss. Indeed a great son has departed!
“We earnestly ask for God’s fortitude upon his family to bear this irreparable loss. May his soul have eternal rest,” the body stated.
