Ifim Ibom Ibibio mourns HM Queen Elizabeth II
Ifim Ibom Ibibio, the Supreme Council of Ibibio Traditional Rulers, has mourned the passage of British monarch, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
In a statement signed by the Oku Ibom Ibibio and President General of Akwa Ibom State Traditional Rulers Council, His Eminence, Ntenyin (Dr.) Solomon Daniel Etuk, on behalf of the council, Ifim Ibom Ibibio asserted that “an era has eclipsed” her demise.
The council stated that “it is worth recalling that Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth 11 had lived a worthwhile life that resonated across the world with immeasurable legacies” adding that “in Nigeria, her imprints – covering our independence, socio-economic and political development, remain indelible.”
Referencing the Queen’s 70-year reign on the throne, the statement noted that the departed monarch being the longest reigning and oldest monarch in the world before her passage on Thursday was a favour from God.
The council commiserated with King Charles III, the Royal Family and the United Kingdom.
They also said the demise is a loss to the entire Commonwealth of Nations and the world at large, and prayed to God to grant her soul eternal rest.
Queen Elizabeth II died at her home in Balmoral, Scotland, on Thursday, Buckingham Palace announced in a statement. She was 96 years.
