Ikono Political Stakeholders Pass Vote Of Confidence On Gov. Eno
…Resolve To Chart New Political Order for Unity And Progress
Political leaders, stakeholders and elders in the Ikono Local Government Area have unanimously passed a vote of confidence in the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, for his stellar performance in his last year in office.
This was the high point of an enlarged meeting of both the PDP and her aggrieved members, held at the country home of the state chapter PDP organising secretary, Chief (Barr.) Moses Akpan, at Mbiabong Ikon 1, Ikono Middle, Ikono LGA.
In a motion duly moved by Mr. Usiene Ikpeme and seconded by High Chief Collins Okoruen, the attendees wholeheartedly assented to the declaration without any dint of reservations.
Setting the tone for the business of the day, the convener of the meeting, Chief (Barr.) Moses Akpan, thanked all who attended the meeting and considered the gesture a good omen.
He termed the meeting “charting the way forward,” describing the recent and current political situation in Ikono as unpalatable and dangerous for the future. He opined that the matter may soon become worse if the people of the area continue to play the proverbial crab, who would not always want its fellow crab to survive no matter the condition they find themselves in.
Barr. Akpan decried the reckless manner in which the people of Ikono would go about assassinating the character of a fellow Ikono person to gain cheap favour from the system. “We should stop fighting ourselves dirty in public; stop destroying our champions so that there won’t be a famine of human resources in our land when the time of reckoning comes.” Chief Moses Akpan said.

He declared that the said meeting was not to dwell on why the PDP failed in Ikono during the last elections or be designed to witch-hunt anybody, but to chart a new political order that will usher in harmony, unity, peace, prosperity and development in the area.
The former PDP chapter chairman assured the people that the governor would be happy with the outcome of the meeting because the governor supports such ideas and commitment from members of the party. He used the occasion to thank Pastor Eno for his genuine efforts to reposition the state through his unbiased and unquantifiable democratic principles and the timeless legacies he is building for the state.
On his part, the State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Augustine Umoh, passionately appealed to the people of the area to shun the immature acts called “Pull Him Down,” noting that the syndrome has permeated our society and progressed in multiple ways. As one of those who has been privileged to belong to the decision-making body of the state, he can tell about the challenges and spectacles confronting him when it comes to presenting cases concerning the Ikono Local Government Area. In his words, we have many sons and daughters of Ikono in good positions that can help the area, but they need one another’s support to attract the necessary dividends to the area and its people.”
Rt. Hon. Victor Udofia, a two-term House of Assembly member, Arc. Aniefon Udo, Akwa ObongUnwana (Dr) Ntatam, Captain Bassey Idiong, Barr. John John, Ikono Transition Council Vice Chairman, Barr. Ekemini Uba, PDP, Chapter Chairman, and Mrs. Idorenyin, PDP, chapter woman leader, collectively appealed to all aggrieved people, no matter the party lines, to sheath their swords and work for the betterment and development of Ikono Local Government Area. Albeit, they decried that the people have been marginalised in one way or another, most significantly by imposing candidates during elections without seeking input from the owners of the land; thus, if the trend doesn’t stop, problems will continue to prevail.
In his reaction, a former Ikono chapter Vice Chairman of the PDP and now a political consultant to parties in the area, Obong David Ntuk, paid glowing tributes to Governor Umo Bassey Eno for his high quality and great performance in his one year in office.
Ntuk praised the governor for running a people-centric administration to the admiration of even the opposition in the state, promising to work with and support him whenever the need arose. He appealed to the leaders who have benefited from the support of the people in one way or another to reciprocate the gestures by giving back to the people.
He thanked Chief (Barr.) Moses Akpan for always exhibiting exemplary leadership and setting the pace in several spheres of endeavour.
The event was attended by Dr. Martins Akpan, Hon. Engr. Edet Umotong, Obong Mike Ene, Obong Inem Inyangette, Akparawa Engr. Ita George, Otuekong Okon Etok, Hon. Gabriel Okoko, Mr. Idongesit Jimmy, Barr. Charles Ndarake, Hon. Etop Umoidem, past council chairmen, vice chairmen, past councillors, past and present Party officials, present PAs and SAs to the Governor, present Transition Committee members, Ward Chairmen, and Executives, women organisations, Party faithful and others.
