Itu Youth Leaders Give Senator Albert Thumbs Up For Robust Legislative Representation
The Chairman, Senate Committee on Petroleum Resources (Upstream) and Senator representing Akwa Ibom North East Senatorial District, Distinguished Senator Bassey Albert (OBA), attended a special round table discourse organized by Itu Youth Leaders on legislative representation.
Senator Albert, who is the Leader of the Akwa Ibom State Caucus in the National Assembly, Abuja, attended the event which had the theme “The Panoply of Effective Representation” held at Ejagine Event Centre, Nelson Mandela Road, Itu Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State.
Setting the tone for the event, Hon (Barr.) Bassey Bassey, former Chairman, Forum of Akwa Ibom Councillors, acknowledged that this is the first of its kind round table discussion to be held in Akwa Ibom State.
Barr Bassey described the session as interactive, designed to enable Itu Youth leaders ask vital questions on service delivery, particularly about the bills he sponsored on the floor of the 9th Senate.
He did not hesitate to congratulate Senator Albert, who emerged the Most Outstanding Senator for the year 2020, on his exceptional representation of the people of Akwa Ibom North East and Akwa Ibom State at large.
The Senator was asked questions about the electronic voting system he spoke about on the floor of the Senate, the benefits of the PIA, his scholarship schemes, the high cost of cooking gas and what the Senate is doing about it and possible solutions towards managing unemployment.

During the session, Senator Bassey Albert gave insights on his performance covering the bills/motions presentations, contributions, various committees’ assignments and all the proceedings of the 8th/9th Senate nay the National Assembly as a whole.
He spoke about the amendment of the Deep Offshore and Inland Basin Production Sharing Contracts ACT which he sponsored; Resolution of the NNPC/Chevron Escravos Gas to Liquid deal which ensured a revised Agreement of the Joint Venture sharing ratio of 25:75 % to 60:40 % in favour of Nigeria and Chevron Limited respectively with a cost savings of over $6 billion (six billion dollars).
He recalled that the feat led to the Presidential approval for both the Ministry of Petroleum Resources /the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) to honour him in recognition of his noble contribution to the oil and gas sector.
Senator Albert also spoke about the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA), maintaining that the deal will revolutionise the country’s Oil and Gas sector and place it as a globally competitive industry and as a preferred destination of choice for investors.

He mentioned other outstanding Bills which he sponsors in the Senate to include: “The National Youth Employment and Development Bill”; “The Nigerian Industrial Revolution Plan Bill,”; “Constitutional Amendment to make Sovereign Wealth Fund, as a first-line beneficiary of the Federation Account”; “Federation Account Amendment Bill 2021”: “The Public Complaints Commission (PCC) Act of 2021” and “The Gas Flaring Prohibition and Punishment Bill 2020.”
According to him, all the bills are currently undergoing various legislative processes.
OBA thereafter thanked Itu Youth leaders for the initiative, and promised to work with them as leaders of tomorrow.
At the end of the discourse, the youths passed a vote of confidence on Senator Bassey Albert Akpan (OBA) for his effective legislative representations.
