In 2016, reports were everywhere that the Akwa IbomĀ State House of Assembly passed a resolution for the official language of the State- Ibibio language- to be taught in our schools. This step was geared towards restoring our language which is gradually dying. Since the passage of that resolution, nothing has been heard over implementation.
The people have the right to know what is happening. The State government should make us understand why this has not happened. We should be concerned that our children no longer speak our language. I feel very sad that we will not be able to bequeath to our children the most treasured aspect of our culture- our language.
Government has to show significant interest over this concern.
