By Mercy Obot

It was an emotional moment on Friday, March 25, 2022, as Senator Bassey Albert Akpan (OBA) consulted the Oku Ibom Ibibio and Paramount Rulers of Ibibio Land under the aegis of Ifim Ibom Ibibio.

The Oku Ibom Ibibio, His Eminence Ntenyin (Dr.) Solomon Daniel Etuk, speaking on behalf of the Supreme Council of Ibibio Traditional Rulers, during the consultation visit held at his Palace in Ikot Ukobo, Nsit Ubium Local Government Area, noted Senator Bassey Albert Akpan’s deep passion in his aspiration to serve Akwa Ibom State and prayed God to grant his heart desires.

“Bassey Albert is my son and I believe strongly that God is not an author of confusion. Whatever we want to be, it is only God that gives us the power to succeed.

“I believe nobody can change your destiny, it is only God who has such power to overturn events as He pleases.

“You are very passionate about Akwa Ibom State. I pray God to grant your heart desires according to His will.

“God is a living God and chooses at all times who He wants. Not by force or how a man thinks. He does everything according to how he designs, ” he said.

While charging Ibibio people to change the negative attitude of denigrating, backstabbing or running others down, Oku Ibom added that they as royal fathers are open to receiving all the aspirants.

“Our primary role as royal fathers is to maintain peace among the aspirants during this electoral process. This will not be done by fight, war or force, “he stressed.

Earlier, Senator Bassey Albert, while consulting the traditional fathers, recounted his sojourn in public office, adding that as a Commissioner for Finance, Chairman Inter-Ministerial Direct Labour Committee, and later Senator, his impacts on the Ibibio nation and Akwa Ibom State as a whole are visible and palpable.

OBA said he has not been discriminating against anyone as a senator but has been working for the benefit of the entire Ibibio and Akwa Ibom State in general.

In the last six years, Albert hinted that he has trained about 481 students drawn from the three Senatorial Districts of the State with many of them graduating with first-class and upper-class honours in areas covering engineering, medicine, pharmacy and others. He, however, promised to do more as a governor.

On his part, the Vice Chairman of Ifim Ibom and Paramount Ruler of Ikot Abasi, HRM Edidem Udo Joe Ntuk Obom prayed God to bless OBA, adding that it is only God that gives power to whomsoever He wishes.
