The foremost Ibibio socio-cultural organisation, Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio (MMI), has commended Governor Umo Eno, PhD, for the appointment of Professor Philip Afaha as the pioneer Vice Chancellor of the University of Education, Afaha Nsit.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, by its International Public Relations Officer, Akparawa (Pst) Idongesit Ikono, MMI described Prof. Afaha as an accomplished and illustrious son of Ibibio land.
The organisation noted that the appointment brings clarity to the transition of the institution from a College of Education to a full-fledged university and provides the leadership required to commence operations on a strong footing.

“Considering Professor Afaha’s academic profile, experience and contributions to scholarship and public service, MMI considers his appointment consistent with the demands of providing experienced leadership for the new institution,” the statement read.
MMI expressed confidence that Prof. Afaha will deploy his wealth of experience, knowledge and administrative capacity to lay a solid foundation for the University and position it as a citadel of academic excellence, character and moral development.
The group congratulated Prof. Afaha on his historic appointment and wished him wisdom, strength and success.
It reaffirmed its commitment to supporting initiatives that advance education, human capital development and overall progress of Akwa Ibom State.
