In recognition of her contributions and commitment towards the promotion of peace and humanitarian services, the NISSI Safety Management Institute has honoured the wife of the former chairman of the Uyo Local Government Area, Deaconess Idaresit Imoh Okon, with the award of Peace Leadership Ambassador.
She was honoured during her 50th birthday thanksgiving service held at United Evangelical Church (founded as Qua Iboe Church), Ojuelegba, Surulere, Lagos, last Thursday.
Speaking before presenting the award to her, the President and Chancellor of the institute, Prof. Ofonime Bassey, said the peace award bestowed on the recipient was well deserved, as such awards by the institute are always and purely on merit.
“Deaconess Idaresit Imoh Okon, on her 50th birthday anniversary, really deserves our institute’s meritorious peace leadership ambassador award in recognition of her contributions, commitment and work in promoting peace, security and leadership development by inspiring and empowering individuals to lead, achieve and fulfil their purpose,” Bassey said.

Bassey, a conflict, peace and security expert, described Okon, who is also the Director of Corporate Relations of the institute, as an embodiment of peace, discipline, hard work, compassion, trustworthiness, dedication, virtuous and God-fearingness, adding that the quinquagenarian is a blessing to humanity.
Responding to the honour done to her, the elated celebrant appreciated God for His exceeding grace, mercy and divine wisdom in all ramifications, thanked the leadership of the institute for finding her worthy of the award and pledged to do more to advance the course of humanity through peace.
