NSCDC Tasked To Prevent Vandalism Of Transformers In A’Ibom

By Eno Udo

The Akwa Ibom Command of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has been charged to prevent the incessant vandalisation of electricity transformers in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital.

The charge was made when the command marked the 2020 World Civil Defence Day with a special thanksgiving at Qua Iboe Church, 2 Olusegun Obasanjo Way, Uyo.

The chairman of the Church, Elder (Barr.) Udo Joseph Assamudo, while acknowledging the role of the command in safeguarding various installations and facilities, however, charged them to do more to fish out those responsible for the spate of transformer vandalism in Uyo.

Such acts of vandalism have become rampant in Uyo and in most cases residents have had to contribute financially to repair them.

The deputy commandant, Isa Andrew, who represented Commandant Samuel Fadeyi, said officers and all personnel of the command were in church to mark the World Civil Defence Day and to seek for more divine protection in the course of their arduous task.

He said the NSCDC has been working round the clock to protect facilities and government installations from being vandalised.

Deputy Commandant Andrew called on the church to always remember NSCDC in prayers.
The command presented a gift to the church.

The senior resident pastor of the church, Revd Iniobong Ekong, later dedicated all the personnel of the command who were in attendance.

This year’s World Civil Defence Day had as theme, Children’s Safety: Our Responsibility.
