The Executive Chairman of Nsit Atai Local Government Area, Hon. Prince Anthony Nyong, has called for stronger collaboration among traditional rulers, Village Youth Presidents and security agencies to strengthen grassroots security and sustain the peace currently enjoyed across the local government area.
The Chairman made the call during a strategic security meeting with Village Heads and Village Youth Presidents at the Council Secretariat, Odot, recently.
He noted that maintaining security is a shared responsibility that requires the commitment and cooperation of all stakeholders at the community level.
Hon. Nyong urged Village Heads and Village Youth Presidents to work closely with security agencies by enhancing intelligence gathering and promptly sharing credible information that would help prevent crime and protect lives and property.
He said the traditional institution and youth leadership play critical leadership roles in their respective communities and should continue to work together in identifying security concerns and supporting efforts to maintain peace and order.

The Chairman commended the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, PhD, for integrating Village Youth Presidents into the state’s security architecture, describing the initiative as a practical step that has strengthened grassroots security by fostering closer collaboration between community youth leaders and security agencies.
He explained that the initiative has improved intelligence gathering and information sharing at the community level, making it easier for security agencies to respond promptly to emerging security issues.
Hon. Nyong further charged Village Youth Presidents to respect the traditional authority of their respective Village Heads, stressing that mutual respect and cooperation are essential for effective community leadership.
He also appealed to the Village Heads to carry the youth leaders along in community affairs and decision-making, noting that unity between both leadership structures would promote peaceful coexistence and strengthen community development.
The Chairman reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting initiatives that promote public safety and assured participants of the Council’s continued partnership with security agencies, traditional rulers and youth leaders in keeping Nsit Atai peaceful and secure.
In his remarks, the Paramount Ruler of Nsit Atai Local Government Area, HRM Edidem Prophet Peter Okon Effiong, commended the Executive Chairman for convening the meeting, describing the initiative as timely and commendable. He urged Village Heads and Village Youth Presidents to continue working together in the interest of peace, unity and security across the Local Government Area.
Also speaking, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Nsit Atai Division, CSP Nyankno Solomon, called on Village Heads and Village Youth Presidents to work closely with security agencies by providing timely and credible information that would assist security agencies in preventing and combating crime across the Local Government Area.
He cautioned against jungle justice, urging residents to always report criminal activities to the appropriate security agencies and allow the law to take its course.
The DPO commended the Executive Chairman for his continued support to security agencies in Nsit Atai and assured that the Police, in collaboration with other security agencies, would continue to work tirelessly to sustain the peace and security currently enjoyed across the Local Government Area.
A major highlight of the meeting was the official inauguration of the newly elected leadership of the Nsit Atai Village Youth Presidents.
Akparawa Ndu Davis was inaugurated as Chairman, while Barr. Charles Okon was inaugurated as Secretary.
Other members of the executive include Patrick Jerome Ita; Obong Mkparawa Ibiakot; Mr. Sunny Udoyen; Obong Mkparawa Ibedu; Mr. Godwin Effiong, Treasurer; Mr. Peter Akpan, Financial Secretary; Mr. Eshiet Sunday, Ex Officio; Mr. Sunday Okon, Assistant Secretary; Mr. Effiong Udo, Welfare Officer; and Mr. Christopher David, Organizing Secretary.
Performing the inauguration, Hon. Nyong charged the new leadership to justify the confidence reposed in them by providing purposeful leadership and working closely with the traditional institution, security agencies and the Local Government Council to strengthen grassroots security across Nsit Atai.
Responding on behalf of the newly inaugurated executive, the Chairman of the Nsit Atai Village Youth Presidents, Akparawa Ndu Davis, expressed appreciation to the Executive Chairman for the confidence reposed in the new leadership and pledged their commitment to work harmoniously with Village Heads, security agencies and the Local Government Council to sustain peace, strengthen security and support the development of Nsit Atai.
The meeting was attended by the Vice Chairman of the Council, Hon. Mrs. Affiong Amanam; the Council Secretary, Obong Elder Sunday Udia; Supervisors; Councillors; members of the Traditional Rulers Council; Village Heads; the Divisional Police Officer, Nsit Atai Division, CSP Nyankno Solomon; and Village Youth Presidents representing all the villages in the Local Government Area.
