...Flags Off 2026 Insecticide-treated Net Distribution Campaign

The Executive Chairman of Nsit Atai Local Government Area, Hon. Prince Anthony Nyong, has officially flagged off the 2026 Insecticide-Treated Net (ITN) Distribution Campaign at the Primary Health Care Centre in Odot, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to improving the health and well-being of the people.

Speaking during the flag-off ceremony, Hon. Nyong described the distribution exercise as a vital intervention aimed at reducing the prevalence of malaria and promoting healthier communities across the local government area.

The Chairman expressed appreciation to the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, for his remarkable strides in the health sector and for supporting initiatives that directly impact the lives of citizens at the grassroots.

He noted that malaria remains one of the leading health challenges affecting families, particularly pregnant women, children, and the elderly, stressing that the distribution of insecticide-treated nets represents a practical step towards preventing malaria-related illnesses and deaths.

According to him, a healthy population is essential for sustainable development, as it enhances productivity, supports education, and reduces the financial burden associated with medical treatment.

In her remarks, the Director of Health, Mrs Nene Afahaene, commended the Executive Chairman for his support for healthcare programmes and his commitment to ensuring that residents have access to quality healthcare services. She urged beneficiaries to make proper use of the insecticide-treated nets to protect themselves and their families from malaria.

Delivering an overview of the campaign, the resource person, Mr Nsikan Ndarake, disclosed that Nsit Atai Local Government Area has been allocated 74,900 insecticide-treated mosquito nets for distribution to residents. He emphasised the importance of consistent and proper use of the nets, noting that they remain one of the most effective measures for preventing malaria transmission.

He further educated participants on the correct installation and use of the nets to ensure maximum protection against mosquito bites.

The high point of the event was the official flag-off and distribution of the insecticide-treated nets to beneficiaries, who expressed gratitude to the Akwa Ibom State Government and the Nsit Atai Local Government Council for bringing the intervention closer to the people.

The campaign is expected to significantly contribute to malaria prevention efforts and improve public health outcomes across communities in Nsit Atai Local Government Area.
