Offot Ukwa Unveils Festival Logo, Unity Mass Choir, Saturday

Offot Ukwa Clan in Uyo Local Government Area in Akwa Ibom State will unveil the logo for the celebration of its 2022 festival of arts and culture at Ibom Plaza on Saturday, August 6, 2022.

The ceremony will also feature the unveiling of the Offot Ukwa Unity Mass Choir and other items relating to the identity of the clan, which has 22 gazetted villages.

A press statement issued by the Central Planning Committee (CPC) for Offot Ukwa Festival of Arts and Culture, 2022 at the weekend, states that the Honourable Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Akwa Ibom State, Hon. Orman Esin will be the special guest of honour; the Executive Chairman of Uyo Local Government Council, Dr Uwemedimo Udo will serve as chairman of the occasion while an erudite scholar in the University of Uyo, Dr Aniekan Brown will serve as the guest speaker.

Among other eminent dignitaries expected at the event are the Honourable Member representing Uyo State Constituency in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Anietie Eka; Chairman, Uyo Capital City Development Authority (UCCDA), Prince Enobong Uwah; Honourable Commissioner for Environment and Solid Minerals, Sir Charles Udoh; Honourable Commissioner for Power and Petroleum Development, Dr John Etim; the Chief Executive Officer of Verini Construction Company Ltd., Elder Ini Utuk.

The chief host and royal father of the day is the Clan Head of Offot Ukwa and Paramount Ruler of Uyo Local Government Area, His Royal Majesty, Edidem Sylvanus Effiong Okon.

The press statement signed by the chairman of the CPC, Elder Patrick Albert and the Secretary, CPC, Mrs Nkereuwem Bassey said the event on Saturday, August 6, 2022, scheduled to commence by 11 am, will feature music, dance and cultural performances.

It says that the motto for the festival is “Celebrating Unity & Cultural Legacy” while the theme is “Offot Ukwa Festival 2022: Utilizing Arts and Culture for Socio-economic & Political Growth.”

The 3rd Offot Ukwa festival due later in the year was first organised in 2013 with the second edition held in 2016.

The festival has been a unifying medium among the people of Offot Ukwa Clan as well as helping to galvanise its cultural heritage.

This year’s edition has been upgraded to be multi-content and will feature: Music, Dance, Plays, Pageantry, Arts and Recreational Games – Traditional and Modern Sports.

The press statement says “the festival will offer our communities and Akwa Ibom State as a whole, the opportunity to boost the abundant cultural, arts and tourism potential – towards creating socio-economic opportunities for local and global patronage.”
