Oku Ibom Ibibio Commiserates With Emir Of Kano Over Ghali Umar Na’Abba’s Demise

The Oku Ibom Ibibio and President General of Akwa Ibom State Supreme Council of Traditional Rulers, His Eminence, Ntenyin (Dr.) Solomon Daniel Etuk, JP, CFR, has mourned the death of a former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Alhaji Ghali Umar Na’Abba.

Ntenyin Etuk, in a condolence message sent to the Emir of Kano, His Royal Highness, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, CFR, described the passage of the erstwhile federal legislator as disheartening and a big loss to the nation.

The Akwa Ibom premier royal father described the late parliamentarian as “a renowned political scientist, policy architect, and nationalist; a background that shaped his leadership as speaker of the House of Representatives from 1999 to 2003.”

He noted that as speaker, Na’Abba’s “robust defence of the independence of the legislature, commitment to the concept of separation of powers, protection of the rule of law, and the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria were impeccable.”

The monarch stated that it was with such sterling leadership traits and positive impacts on his constituents that the late Alhaji Ghali Umar Na’Abba earned the award of Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (CFR) and several other honours.

The message read, “I have heard of the disheartening news of the demise of Alhaji Ghali Umar Na’Abba, who served our great nation as the 8th Speaker of the House of Representatives.

“Recollections of his life and times are surely evocative, making his passage at the age of 65 on December 27, 2023, very painful and a big loss to your Emirate, Kano State, and Nigeria as a whole.

“On behalf of the Akwa Ibom State Supreme Council of Traditional Rulers, I therefore convey our condolences to you, his family, the Emirate, and Kano State at large.”

He prayed to the Almighty God to forgive his sins and grant his soul a peaceful rest.
