Oron Community, Senator, Gov’t Dignitaries, Clerics Pay Respect To Late Rev Nkoyo Abia

The Oron Community stood still on Saturday as a prominent woman leader and cleric, late Rev. (Mrs.) Nkoyo Sunday Abia, aged 60, was laid to rest in Oron, Akwa Ibom State.

The funeral service was conducted by The Divine Will of God Ministries, international headquarters, No. 4, Nduonyi Street, Oron, where the late Rev. (Mrs.) Nkoyo Sunday Abia, was accorded the honour of being buried within the premises of the church for her sterling contributions to the growth and development of the church founded by her husband, His Lordship, Bishop Sunday Richard Abia.

Among the dignitaries at the funeral service was the senator representing Akwa Ibom South Senatorial District, Senator (Mrs) Akon Eyakenyi; Member representing Oron/Idung Uko State Constituency in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Effiong Bassey; the Commissioner for Transport and Solid Minerals, Rt. Hon. Chief Uno Etim Uno, chairmen of councils as well as clerics.

The Late Rev (Mrs.) Nkoyo Sunday Abia, who was born on June 20, 1960, attended Teachers Training College (TTC), National Teachers Institute and the University of Port Harcourt where she obtained a Teachers Grade II certificate in 1989; Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) in 1994 and a Bachelor of Education degree (B.Ed.) in 2006 respectively.

She taught in several schools before retiring in June 2020 as deputy headteacher under the Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Education. It was recalled that in her career and public service, she was guided by her passion to make the world a better place and her desire to impact lives with the investment of her personality.

In her biography read by her grandson and granddaughter, she was described as “a core disciplinarian, strict, loving and caring mother and wife, someone who preached family values, peace, unity, cooperation, sharing, fellowship, tolerance and understanding to all her children and others.”

The late Rev. (Mrs.) Nkoyo Abia got married to her husband, His Lordship Bishop S. A. Abia in 1977. The union is blessed with seven children.

In her Christian life, it was said that Late Rev. (Mrs.) Nkoyo Abia served as a deaconess, a choir leader and a Sunday school teacher in the Mount Zion Mission.

According to the biography, “In 2001, she joined her beloved husband to co-found The Divine Will of God Ministries where she held numerous positions, including Sunday School Director and Head of the Women Fellowship. She was one of the topmost financial contributors and givers in the ministry.

“She was a source of support, courage and strength to her husband all through her life in the ministry. Mummy lived to please God and that was all that mattered to her. She was caring and loving to every member of the church, and she was so full of compassion for everyone.”

She was ordained into the office of a Reverend in The Divine Will of God Ministry in March 2010. and she slept in the Lord on September 20, 2020.

In his sermon at the funeral service, Bishop (Dr.) Effiong Isangedighi of the Assembly of God admonished Christians to live a good life wife on earth to be in heaven with the creator upon their death.

Speaking on the theme “God’s Judgement”, Bishop Isangedighi, quoting a passage from the scriptures, said, “It is appointed for men once to die and after this the judgment” (Hebrews 9:27).

They lamented that abominable lifestyle, adultery and evil were being perpetrated in the world, warning that judgement will start from the church.

He testified of the good life lived by the departed cleric and prayed to God to grant her husband, children and the entire family the fortitude to bear her loss.
