Village Head of Ukat Nsit Joins Ancestors, Funeral Saturday, Dec 19

The Ukat Nsit community in Nsit Ibom Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State has lost its village head, late Eteidung Bassey Ben Nkanga.

The late royal father joined his ancestors on April 13, 2020 at the age of 82. His ascension to the traditional leadership of the community started when he was selected and installed as the Obong Ikpa Isong of Ukat Nsit in 1988.

Upon his sterling leadership qualities and commitment to community matters, and as someone being loved by his people; he was in 2009, elevated to the position of Village Head of Ukat Nsit Village, Nsit Ibom LGA of Akwa Ibom State, a position he held till his death.

A statement issued on behalf of the family by one of his sons, Prince Ndifreke Bassey Ben, said night of songs for the late royal father will take place at the Eteidung Palace, Ukat Nsit, Nsit Ibom by 7pm on Friday, December 18, 2020 while funeral service will hold Government Primary School, Ukat/Ikot Offiok, Nsit Ibom LGA by 10am on Saturday, December 19, 2020 to be conducted by the United Evangelical Church (founded as Qua Iboe Church).

Prince Ndifreke Ben said the monarch was born in 1938 into the royal family of Inyang Imo in Ukat Nsit Village of Nsit Ibom LGA and attended Nsit Gramma School for his formal education to a point of being able to read and write and that he communicated fluently in English and his native language, Ibibio.

He said that his late father, as a businessman, was known to be very industrious and engaged in bakery in Calabar, Cross River State as well as agriculture, especially crop farming among others.

The Late Eteidung Bassey Ben Nkanga is survived by a wife, Madam Affiong Bassey Ben, 14 children, a brother, sons –in-law, daughters In-law, 50 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.

Prince Ndifreke Ben described his late father as caring and upright. “We have missed a great father and leader. He administered the community with love and care. He was always responsive to issue on development at all times,” he said.
