The police in Akwa Ibom State have recorded another operational success in their sustained efforts to maintain peace, protect lives and property, and prevent activities that threaten public safety across the state.
To this end, the Command has arrested three male suspects, namely Uwakmfon Sunday, Edidiong Jackson and Sunday Tom, in connection with masquerade-related activity.
The State Police Command, through its Police Public Relations Officer, Timfon John, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, disclosed this in a press release on Thursday, September 3, 2026.
According to DSP John, on August 31, 2026, at about 1752 hours, the Command received a distress call concerning a masquerade-related activity along Mbak Akpan Ekpenyong.
Operatives of the Command acted swiftly on the distress call and immediately mobilised to the area to restore normalcy and prevent any escalation of the situation.

She disclosed that upon arrival at the scene, the operatives successfully arrested three male suspects, while other participants at the scene fled upon sighting the police.
Masquerade regalia found in the possession of the suspects were also recovered and secured as exhibits.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State Command, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, fsi, commended the operatives for their prompt response and professional handling of the situation.
CP Azare reiterated that the Command will continue to respond decisively to distress calls and intelligence pointing to activities capable of disrupting public peace.
He further warned individuals and groups who may attempt to exploit cultural or traditional activities as a cover for disorder, intimidation, violence or other unlawful conduct to desist, stressing that no individual or group will be permitted to undermine the peace and security of Akwa Ibom State.
The Commissioner, however, assured law-abiding residents that the Police Command respects lawful cultural and traditional practices and will continue to work with relevant stakeholders to ensure that such activities are conducted peacefully and within the ambit of the law.
He therefore called on members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities, threats to public safety or breaches of the peace to the nearest police formation or through the established emergency communication channels.
