Distinguished Senator Ekong Sampson, representing Akwa Ibom South Senatorial District, today received a delegation from Excellent College, Ikot Unya, Mkpat Enin Local Government Area, at Shakespeare Hall, Watbridge Hotels and Suites, Uyo.
The team made a brief stopover following their participation in the anniversary celebration of the Golden Initiative For All (GIFA), a programme of the Office of the First Lady of Akwa Ibom State. The cultural troupe from Excellent College delivered a captivating performance that drew admiration from the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno, PhD; Her Excellency, the Deputy Governor, Senator Akon Eyakenyi; as well as other government functionaries and guests.
Excellent College, Ikot Unya, was established in 2004 by Senator Ekong Sampson (then known as Hon. Barr. Ekong Sampson). The school was run tuition-free for several years before it was taken over by the Akwa Ibom State Government in 2018, and contributed significantly in the success of the free and compulsory education of the Akwa Ibom State Government.

During the visit, Dr Amayak Uko, the pioneer Principal and now Principal Master, Socials and Extra-Curricular Affairs, congratulated the Distinguished Senator for his foresight in establishing the institution. He noted that the school has provided children from Ikot Unya and its environs with access to the Free and Compulsory Education Programme of the Akwa Ibom State Government. He further highlighted that in recent years, Excellent College has consistently participated in several government-organised events and programmes in Uyo, the state capital, including quizzes, debates, exhibitions, and excursions.
In his remarks, Senator Ekong Sampson, founder of Excellent College, commended the students for their excellence and urged them to remain focused, disciplined, and dedicated to their academic pursuits. He reaffirmed his enduring commitment to education and pledged to further develop the institution into a model college.

The Distinguished Senator announced that the construction of a perimeter fence and additional staff quarters will commence soon. He also disclosed plans to equip the science and computer laboratories with state-of-the-art facilities and to provide modern sports facilities to enhance students’ development. In addition, he revealed that solar-powered streetlights will be installed within the school premises and that the road from the school gate to the administrative block will be tarred.
To ensure adequate security and protect the growing infrastructure, he further announced that a police post has been approved for the school.
The visit underscored Senator Ekong Sampson’s unwavering dedication to educational advancement and his continued investment in shaping a brighter future for the young people of Ikot Unya and beyond.
