The Executive Chairman, Uyo Local Government Council, Dr. Uwemedimo Udo has emerged a winner for the 20th Nigerian Local Government Chairmen Merit Award (LOGMA 2021).
Accordingly, he will be honoured as one of the best performing Local Government Chairmen in Nigeria on Thursday, August 12, 2021,
Dr. Udo was nominated by members of the public for the category of best performance in local government administration in Nigeria and was subsequently voted for to emerge as one of the winners of the esteemed award in the area of potable water supply.
According to a letter signed by the Editor-in-Chief/Project Co-ordinator at Mentors Communications Limited, Chief Bayode Ojo ANIPR, Dr. Uwemedimo Udo emerged as one of the final winners after scrutiny of votes and public opinion poll in response to their publications on radio, television, and newspaper.
The letter reads thus: “The panel of Judges and Nomination Committee of Nigerian Local Government Chairmen Merit Award (LOGMA) have unanimously chosen you as one of the worthy recipients of the esteemed award for 2021.
“You have successfully passed through the various performance assessment stages; verification of report from our field officer, public opinion poll, in response to our Call for Nomination on radio and television stations, and national dailies. All these records proved that you have made exceptional and outstanding contributions to grassroots development.
“Your commitment to service delivery and high sense of accountability, despite dwindling financial resources to the council and security challenges in the country, are commendable.
“You have demonstrated responsible and accountable political leadership that has made a positive impact on the lives of ordinary people in your local government and Nigeria in general; particularly, your outstanding achievement in the area of potable water supply. This award is therefore packaged to celebrate excellence and enhance your present and future political endeavours.”
The event which is scheduled to hold at the National Merit House, Maitama, Abuja, will be chaired by the Senate Minority Leader, Senator Eyinnaya Abaribe while the Honourable Minister of Internal Affairs, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, is being expected as the special guest of honour.
Accordingly, the Executive Chairman of Uyo Local Government Council, Dr. Uwemedimo Udo has appreciated everyone who voted for him to emerge as one of the winners of the National Award and pledged his commitment to continue to do his best at every given time to the benefit of indigenes and residents of Uyo.
Recall that Dr. Udo had within his first 100 Days in office changed the narrative in local government administration with the construction of a 24-room with 3 open registries, 9 conveniences, 6 exit points with proper landscaping office accommodation as the new Administrative Block for staff of Uyo Local Government Council, christened “Udom Emmanuel Administrative Block”.
Also within the period, Dr. Udo ensured the procurement and installation of a 300KVA Transformer, grading of rural roads, provision of water supply at Uyo shopping complex, and Health center at Wellington Bassey Way.
Other achievements of the chairman within 100 days included; provision of communication gadgets for the mobilisation unit of the Primary Health Center, installation of renewable energy sources, building of platform at Akpan Andem market, as well as a review of some development Bye-laws in Uyo Local Government Area.
