Uyo Paramount Ruler Preaches Peaceful Coexistence Among Atai Uyo

The Paramount Ruler of Uyo Local Government Area, HRM Edidem Sylvanus Effiong Okon, has called for peaceful coexistence among the people of Atai Uyo, saying, such measure would further enhance the wellbeing of the people as well as attract development to the area.

The Royal Father gave the charge, Monday, when the foremost socio-political and cultural organisation, Atai Uyo People’s Forum (AUPF) paid a courtesy call on him at his palace at Eniong Offot Community in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State Capital.

The group, Atai Uyo is made up of four (4) Local Government Areas in Uyo Federal Constituency. They are; Uyo, Uruan, Ibesikpo Asutan and Nsit Atai.

The monarch, who observed that the absence of genuine love for one another was the cause of myraid of unrest in the Country, lauded AUPF for championing the cause of unity and togetherness among themselves and the State at large.

Giving his royal blessing to the socio-political and cultural group, Edidem Sylvanus Okon, enjoined them to fight and support initiatives that would make Atai Uyo great, describing Atai Uyo people as peaceful, honest and reliable people.

Earlier, the President of Atai Uyo People’s Forum (AUPF), Rt. Hon. Tony Asikpo, informed the Royal Father that the birth of the organization was divinely inspired to serve as the umbrella for “the great stock of Ibibio people.”

According to the President, the promotion of unity, wellbeing and development, are the driving force for Atai Uyo People’s Forum.

Asikpo, specifically lauded the Monarch for his love and support to his subjects and residents of Uyo.

“Your Royal Majesty, we wish to publicly acknowledge your sagacity as our Paramount Ruler in Uyo LGA. We have seen your spirit of love and support to all your children and residents of Uyo. You have brought about greater sense of unity and development amongst our people and we are fully persuaded that we will enjoy your fatherly blessings and support as a group.”

By way of supporting efforts of the State Government in the area of human capacity development, Asikpo said, the organization has concluded plans to carry out Scholarship awards; Empowerment; Skill development programme; promotion of professional excellence through awards, and interventions in the provision of educational resources and Medicare among others for the people of Atai Uyo.

The group’s leader eulogized the State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, for his administration’s development of Atai Uyo, and for appointing Atai Uyo people to serve in his government.

His words: “As lovers of progress, permit us to use this opportunity to applaud Governor Udom Emmanuel led Administration for some commendable human, infrastructural and economic development projects that are established and currently being executed in Atai Uyo. These cover health facilities at St. Luke’s Hospital Anua and Methodist Hospital Ituk Mbang, and the additional building of a specialist facility – the Infectious Disease Control Centre and the ongoing construction of Ring Roads, improvement of infrastructures and, amongst others.

“We are also happy that the Government has commenced the fencing of public primary and secondary schools in the municipal centers of Uyo to check insecurity and abuses in the schools’ premises.

“May we also commend His Excellency, Governor Udom Emmanuel’s administration for giving consideration to Atai Uyo to occupy the positions of the Speaker, Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly; the Head of the Civil Service; Commissioners in the State Executive Council, Chairmen and Members of Boards and other MDAs respectively.”

The President of the group, Hon Tony Asikpo was accompanied on the visit by other Executive Members namely; Rt Hon Anthony Essien, Vice President and Elder Iniobong Obot, Secretary General.
